Best bar none: Coogee's first wine bar opens
Coogee’s first ever wine bar has opened.
The smart new Coogee Wine Room offers more than 400 wines on a list curated by Brooke Adey (ex-Bea, Chiswick and Yellow).
Head chef Sandro Di Marino (ex-A Tavola) has written a snappy Mediterranean sharing menu with dishes such as raw kingfish, watercress and pink pepper, or mushroom carpaccio with manchego.
“We’ve worked hard to create a balanced list that showcases the best examples of wine varietals that are synonymous with the great wine regions of the world,” says co-owner Tom Hardwick.
More than 25 wines will be offered by the glass, plus there’s the option of purchasing half bottles.
“My partner Michelle and I like to start a nice lunch or dinner with a few glasses of white and finish with a few glasses of red. We don’t necessarily want to commit to a bottle of white and a bottle of red if it’s just the two of us so if there’s no wines by the glass that take our fancy, you’re really restricted with what you can order. We’ve found a lot of the wine bars in Europe allow you to enjoy half serves of wines from the list, and then sell the remainder by the glass so that’s something we will also offer.”
On the opening menu are dishes including ricotta ravioli with basil, pinenuts, butter, lamb rump with spring greens and tarragon sauce and an 800g, $82 t-bone with rocket and reggiano.
