Cheap and cheerful Mexican has arrived in the East with the opening of El Camino Cantina at the Entertainment Quarter

There’s a mock car with an open boot laden with corn chips and salsa for unlimited return visits, $2 tacos on Tuesdays, iced margarita machines pumping out margarita slushies and sombreros on entry — El Camino Cantina has arrived in the East.

The unashamedly inauthentic Mexican with a party attitude launched on October 4 at the Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park.

The menu is a mix of Tex-Mex dishes including the signature soft-shell tacos with mushroom and chipotle coleslaw and beer-battered barramundi with green mango salsa and jalapeno aioli.

The opening of the venue makes three restaurants in the precinct for the Rockpool Dining Group, which also has Fratelli Fresh and the Bavarian in the precinct.

“The Eastern Suburbs will be home to a fun, affordable and unrivalled Tex-Mex experience,” says Rockpool Dining Group CEO Thomas Pash. “The precinct is a tried and tested location for us, with our Fratelli Fresh and The Bavarian restaurants proving to be huge drawcards for families and groups of diners attending sporting games, concerts, the cinema and other activations around the complex.”

Pash makes no apologies for the fun, Tex-Mex approach of the venue with its bold artworks, loud music and faintly chaotic vibe.

“We take a no holds barred approach to all things Tex-Mex,” he says. “From the food and drinks, to the fit-out, and the music and we’re inviting all of our Eastern Suburbs fans to come and join us as we head in to summer.”
